Xencor is an innovative, clinical-stage biotechnology company located in the Los Angeles area (near Pasadena) and in San Diego. Our protein engineering capabilities and the modular nature of our technology allow us to quickly identify and create new platforms and drug candidates for potential development. We are developing a broad portfolio enabled by the rapid expansion of our bispecific technologies, and nine XmAb bispecific antibodies and cytokines are in clinical testing. We also leverage our many XmAb technologies by engaging in multiple collaborations with leading global biopharmaceutical companies, including Novartis, Amgen and Genentech, among others. Including our partners, over a dozen XmAb drug candidates are advancing through clinical development, and the first antibody that incorporates an XmAb technology has been approved for commercial marketing worldwide.

We seek a motivated Manager, Facilities & Lab Operations to join our Facilities & Lab Operations group. (The final title will be commensurate with qualifications, experience, and calibration.) This group’s responsibilities include operation and maintenance of the company’s Research & Development laboratory and office spaces.   • Supervises the operation, calibration and maintenance of laboratory and office facilities
  • Assists with facility construction projects
  • Coordinates the purchasing of laboratory supplies and maintain stock levels
  • Supervises direct reports in support of departmental efforts
  • Performs facility inspections and remediates hazards
  • Responsible for Shipping and Receiving related duties
  • Coordinates new equipment installations
  • Maintains conference rooms for large meetings, and provides security for premises
  • May perform other related duties as required and/or assigned.


  • Bachelor’s Degree
  • At least 5 years of directly related experience in facilities operations, preferably in the biotech/pharmaceutical industry.
  • At least 3 years of experience within a biotech/pharmaceutical laboratory and facilities-related environment.
  • Previous experience managing others.
  • Familiarity with HAZMAT-handling programs, EH&S regulations, electrical, plumbing, security, HVAC, carpentry, lab utilities (gases and RO/DI), refrigeration, local building codes and disaster recovery procedures.
  • Proficiency with MS Office.
  • Customer orientation, with the ability to work effectively with all levels of employees, management and vendors.
  • Ability to read drawings and diagrams.
  • Ability to effectively organize, multi-task, and work in a fast-paced, deadline-driven work environment.
  • Ability to work independently and manage time effectively without continuous oversight or supervision.
  • Excellent written and oral communications skills to maintain and write reports, work orders, and procedures.
  • Experience in cost-reduction programs and vendor management
  • Ability to lift 70lbs and/or move large tanks of liquefied gas

The physical demands of the office are normally associated with extended amounts of time sitting and using office equipment, including a computer, keyboard and mouse, which can cause muscle strain. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to stand, walk and sit. Periodic light lifting of supplies and materials may apply.

Occasional travel may be required, including travel between Xencor’s Monrovia and San Diego offices. Work for this position is generally performed at Xencor’s worksite and requires full-time commitment.
