The Discovery Biology and Pharmacology group is seeking an innovative and highly motivated Research Associate 2/3 with experience in immunology to join our team. In this lab-based role, the successful candidate will be responsible for designing and delivering biological data to support preclinical development of immune-based therapies for cancer and other diseases.

We are seeking to expand assay and analytical capabilities at a growing site to support novel multi-specific protein-based therapeutics efforts by characterize immune cell function. Applying a translational mindset, you will work in a dynamic and collaborative environment to interrogate mechanisms of action and pharmacology of novel therapeutics from early discovery to IND stages of programs.


We are looking for a creative, proactive experimentalist with a deep curiosity and enthusiasm for biology and therapeutics. You will be accountable for generating quality data using robust methodologies and must have the ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a larger team. Duties & Responsibilities

  • Perform a wide range of complex lab procedures including, but not limited to, peripheral blood mononuclear cell isolation, tissue culture (cell lines and primary human/cyno cells), human primary T cell stimulation assays, multiparameter flow cytometry immunophenotyping, monoclonal antibody conjugation, cell line generation.
  • Conduct independent research with minimal guidance, including planning and conduct of experiments which may require examination of peer reviewed publications to identify appropriate experimental strategies.
  • Maintain accurate, daily records of experiments.
  • Analyze experimental data, prepare summary analyses for presentation and/or publication, and participate in authorship of technical reports for IND submissions.
  • Participate in inventory management and ordering and maintenance of supplies
  • Calibrate and operate a variety of laboratory instruments under standard guidelines and following Standard Operating Procedures including Incucyte, flow cytometers, plate readers, cell counters, and automated liquid handlers.
  • Interact with scientists from other groups or departments involved in similar or related research projects.


Requirements

  • A Bachelor’s degree plus three (>3) years of experience required.
  • Minimum of three (3) years of laboratory-based training in Immunology or a closely related field.
  • Extensive experience with all aspects of flow cytometry including instrument standardization, calibration, and assay optimization required.
  • Experience performing a variety of laboratory procedures including immune cell-based functional assays required.
  • Experience with human and monkey immune cells preferred.
  • Excellent communication skills (verbal and written) required.

The physical demands of the office are normally associated with extended amounts of time sitting and using office equipment, including a computer, keyboard and mouse, which can cause muscle strain. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to stand, walk and sit. Periodic light lifting of supplies and materials may apply.

Occasional travel may be required, including travel between Xencor’s Monrovia and San Diego offices. Work for this position is generally performed at Xencor’s worksite and requires full-time commitment.
