Research Associate Antibody Technologies

Research – Monrovia, California
Department Research
Employment Type Full Time

Xencor is an innovative, clinical-stage biotechnology company located in the Los Angeles area (near Pasadena) and in San Diego. We use our pioneering XmAb® technology to discover and develop better biotherapeutics – antibodies and other proteins with improved function – with the goal of improving patient outcomes and quality of life, and we have an excellent opportunity for a Research Associate to join our team.

Our capabilities and the modular nature of our technology allow us to quickly identify and create new platforms and drug candidates for potential development. We are developing a deep pipeline of novel drug candidates enabled by the rapid expansion of our bispecific technologies, and seven XmAb bispecific antibody programs are in clinical testing. We also leverage our many XmAb technologies by engaging in multiple collaborations with leading global biopharmaceutical companies, including Novartis, Amgen and Genentech, among others. Including our partners, over a dozen XmAb drug candidates are advancing through clinical development, and the first antibody that incorporates an XmAb technology has been approved for commercial marketing in the United States.

Our employees are the most important factor in our success and we have assembled a highly talented group from diverse backgrounds and disciplines to execute our business plan and shape our future. Xencor employees value new ideas and flexibility and demand from each other scientific rigor, a passion for innovation, and a willingness to take risks.

We are seeking a motivated Research Associate to join our Antibody Technologies team to assist with high throughput screening and characterization activities. This group is responsible for generation of antibodies using hybridoma/phage display technologies and their complete bioanalytical and functional characterization required to prioritize the leads.  In addition, the team supports full spectrum of bioanalytical and biophysical assays required to QC all proteins made in house, including multiformat therapeutic leads and various assay and immunization reagents.

The ideal candidate is self-driven, able to work in a fast-paced environment, and passionate about learning/implementing new technologies that enhance the discovery process. This is an exciting opportunity to impact the next wave of drug development candidates to enter our pipeline. Candidates should have a demonstrated record of technical proficiency, and an ability to work effectively and collaboratively in a cross functional team format.  Prior industry experience is a plus.

Local candidates preferred.

Qualifications:

• BS in Biological Sciences or a related discipline with 2+ years of research lab experience; industry experience preferred.

• Technical expertise in cell culture, flow cytometry, high-throughput screening and data analysis/interpretation is a must.

• Experience with antibody discovery platforms (hybridoma, B-cell screening, phage display) is highly desired.

• Strong background and work experience with binding and competition assays (SPR, BLI, FRET, ELISA) is required.

• Experience with transfections, stable cell line generation and characterization (sorting, MESF analysis) would be a strong plus.

• Ability to perform method development, write protocols, maintain detailed records and inventory are required.
